Protein Shake Diet

Protein Shake Diet

What it is

Out of all the stupid diets I have done this one is right up there with starving myself. This diet is a low-calorie liquid diet that consists of drinking only, yup, you guessed it, protein shakes. I got the idea of doing this from a rumor that Beyoncé had used an iv in order to lose her post baby weight. The idea of still fueling my body with the nutrients it needs daily without all the calories intrigued me. And without access to an iv every day, I substituted with a powdered protein shake. And not just any old protein shake I could find, I purchased whichever was cheapest and most readily available. I drank GNC’s Total Lean which I could purchase at my local Rite Aid as well.

Here is an example of what I would eat for any given day:

What I ate

Breakfast (8:00am): 2 scoops of GNC Total Lean strawberry with 15oz of water

Snack (10:00am): Whatever scraps of food my children did not eat or bites of cold leftovers out of the fridge.

Lunch (12:00pm) : 2 scoops of GNC Total Lean strawberry with 15oz of water

Snack (3:00pm): More scraps, more bites.

Dinner (6:00pm): 2 scoops of GNC Total Lean strawberry with 15oz of water. Small portion of whatever I made for diner for the family.

My Workout

None.

My Results

I withstood this diet for 3 weeks, which is just about how long I could take it. I did not lose any weight on this diet. Daily I consumed approximately 500 calories.

My Review

Similar to the starvation diet, this diet slowed my metabolism. I had decreased energy and continued to have an unhealthy relationship to food. The only good that came from this diet was it kept me very hydrated.
